If you are a Robert Taylor fan, or just interested in aviation art in general, then this is a must-have volume of the artists paintings and painstakingly rendered pencil sketches, most of which were completed between 1996 and 2000. However you measure it Robert Taylor has been setting new standards for aviation art for the last 25 years and he continues to raise the bar with images like Channel Dash, The Homecoming and Phantom Strike (shown above).

The overall presentation, quality and style of this book is excellent and is consistent with previous volumes. It kicks off with an introduction by Air Marshal Sir Ivor Broom and a short biography of the artist (this is covered in depth in ealier volumes) interspersed with a series of full page pencil sketches. This is followed by an appreciation of Robert’s work by three distinguished combat pilots, Group Captain Frank Carey, Major Martin Drewes and Colonel ‘Bud’ Mahurin.

	In the next section the artist explains the evolution of a painting in great depth using The Doolittle Raiders as an example and supported with many working sketches. The final section is dedicated to a gallery of 31 paintings supported by numerous sketches plus narrative from the artist.

Limited Edition Version with Print

A limited edition version of Air Combat Paintings Volume IV was also issued at the time of release in 2000.

The book was issued with the matching numbered companion print Lancaster Under Attack signed by Flight Lieutenant Bill Reid VC and Major Martin Drewes.

The books were issued with a blue cloth slip case with the artist’s signature gold blocked on the front cover. The books were signed and numbered inside by the artist. The edition size was 650 plus 25 Remarques.
