In 1940 Goring was convinced that the Luftwaffe was invincible and no new aircraft designs were needed. The therefore decreed that only refinements of existing types would be permitted. The Battle of Britain and the experience on the Russian front changed this thinking dramatically and a period of great innovation began. Some amazing designs followed, many of which would not have looked out of place in the Cold War and beyond. This book is a detailed analysis of the Luftwaffe’s secret bomber projects from 1926 to the end of the war in 1945.
Not strictly speaking an art book as such, it has however approximately 100 excellent full colour illustrations by artist Heinz Rode. These are backed up with many three-view drawings and period photos.

After a Foreward by the authors and an invaluable Glossary of Terms, the book looks at each design in turn. The layout is broadly chronological but subdivided down into logical groupings such as Tactical Bomber Projects 1944-1945 and Strategic Long-Range Flying Boat Projects. An Appendix contains a detailed look at powerplants and weapons
Unfortunately no where in the book does it describe how the artist manages to create these superb paintings, many times from extremely sketchy original reference material. That aside this is an excellent book, highly recommended.
